The Carry On Room at the rear of the hall
The Carry On Room was used by the Wallacia Carry On Club
"Our motto is to Carry On"
The origin of the Carry on Club was set up in July 1940 during the Second World War by a group of local ladies as a Comfort Club. The Comfort Fund existed nation wide and provided free comforts (hence the name) to Australian fighting men in all battle zones. The club made Anzac biscuits and sent food parcels to their loved ones who were serving overseas.
After the war the Comfort Clubs were shut down but the Wallacia ladies decided to Carry On! They met in the Wallacia Hotel and their homes including those of Mrs Downes and Mrs Crossman.
The Progress Hall was finally finished in 1952 and the club moved into their own meeting room here. They organised events and outings and provided a great community service to Wallacia.
They met regularly until July 2005 when the only remaining members were elderly and decided there was no further need to Carry On.
