New paths at the Progress Hall for improved safety

The Progress Association applied for funding for concrete paths at the hall to improve safety and was awarded $15,450.00 from the NSW Government Community Building Partnership 2022 grant. The work has now been completed and it has made a huge difference to the safety of people walking up to the front door and the outside toilet block. The hall was built by community volunteers and opened in1954. It is one of the few halls still being owned by the local community and is managed by the Progress Association committee who appreciate any support with the ongoing maintenance of the hall. The hall is available to hire with the details on our website HERE
The Progress Association and Councillor Sue Day arranged for Penrith Council to install the new footpath from Greendale Road to the front of the hall so it is now easily accessible for people to walk to. Thankyou to Denes from DJ Concrete who put in extra time and effort to suit our requirements.
WPA has also received $2000.00 funding from Penrith City Council Heritage Assistance Funding for window restoration. We have to contribute the same amount and this is only to make a start on all the windows that need restoring with another $15,000.00 required.  Our next fundraiser is a Bunnings BBQ on the 18th November and we will be looking for volunteers to help. Any other ideas are welcome.  The annual membership of the Wallacia Progress Association is due before the next Annual General Meeting on the 14th November and although the fee is only $1.00, any additional donations are greatly appreciated.

Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre (AWRC) project.

Sydney Water is building the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre (AWRC) in Kemps Creek and contractors John Holland have started construction at the AWRC and on the two pipelines. The treated water pipeline will be built between Kemps Creek and the Nepean River at Wallacia. The pipeline will mostly be built underground along Park Road and through the streets of Wallacia.  There will be an excavated trench from Shelley Avenue down to Fowler Reserve where the pipeline will tunnel 30m under the Nepean River, cross under Silverdale Road and discharge the treated water into the river below the weir. The work in Fowler Reserve is due to start at the beginning of November and will take about 6 months

Detailed information on the work locations, working hours and how they will manage construction impacts has been distributed to nearby properties and is available on Sydney Water Talk. To know more, please email the team or call  1800 064 127.

Wallacia Community - Be Involved

The Wallacia Progress Association (WPA) has been working with the community since 1908. The Progress Hall on Greendale Road was built by volunteers and opened in 1954, and has been used by the community ever since. It is one of the few village halls still owned and managed by volunteers and was registered as being of heritage significance in 2007.
Over the past few years the WPA volunteers have managed and enhanced the hall for the benefit of Wallacia. Upgrades have included emergency lighting and fire safety equipment. A Lions Club Australia grant funded installation of air conditioning and  a grant from the State Government funded installation of hand dryers to the toilets, outdoor sensor lights to enhance security and painting to the rear of the hall. There is still plenty more to do and the committee is looking for new members and volunteers.
WPA is involved with caring for our local environment and community. We  want to focus on preserving our unique village lifestyle and working towards better facilities for all age groups as well as encouraging more community events. We need your help to do this!
Please let us know what you would like to see in Wallacia.
We need more members to work with the committee but also to just support the association by joining as a member.  Membership is only $1, although we appreciate any additional donation to assist financing the Association, which includes the ongoing operation of the hall.
The benefits of WPA membership includes notification of meetings, updates of happenings in and around Wallacia as well as supporting the Progress Hall.

WPA  Membership
If you are already a member, thank you for your support and if you have been a member in the past and haven't renewed then please do so as we rely on the financial support of our members. Membership to the Association is only $1 a year although donations are welcome!
