Important information for Greendale, Wallacia and Mulgoa residents
Put in an EIS submission which closes on 31st January 2024
The proposed RRO (Reciprocal Runway Operations) flightpath is directly over Greendale and Wallacia especially during the night time from 11pm to 6am. Mulgoa residents will also be severely impacted. Only a very small number of homes next to the airport will qualify for sound mitigation measures unless there are special circumstances that you can apply for.
It is important that as many people as possible put in a submission so that the concerns of our community are heard and considered at this stage. The number of submissions will be vital. Changes can be made. It is not too late. Silence will be seen as a green light for the best interest of the airport operation.
Your submission does not need to be lengthy – just a few sentences to outline your concerns and viewpoints. Some issues you might want to include:
- Demand a legislated curfew from 11pm to 6am just like Kingsford Smith – We should be equally afforded the same protection from harmful noise impacts and not be treated as second class citizens.
- Highlight the significant health risks that we will face living under the flightpath during the nighttime There is strong medical evidence that consistent sleep disturbances can cause:
- Higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease, stroke and mental health issues.
- Lower life expectancy
- Cognitive/developmental delays in children.
- Redirecting the RRO flightpath to avoid the Wallacia community.
- Ensure noise producing procedures at the airport are minimised.
- Highlight concerns about our water quality, particularly if you use tank water. This will impact those who use tank water for drinking as well as to grow their own food.
- Demand noise mitigation for your house. Many people have had development limitations put on their property due to future noise concerns but aren’t currently eligible for the noise mitigation scheme.
- Highlighting concerns about environmental impacts on natural landscapes and wildlife habitats (including the Warragamba catchment and Bents Basin)
- Any other lifestyle impacts: You won’t be able to sleep with your windows open and you might have to rely on expensive air conditioning more often on summer nights. There are more issues included on the Residents Against Western Sydney Airport (RAWSA) Facebook page.
